SIMSBURY - Elayne Cree, owner of Creeture Comforts LLC, a pet sitting service, has earned professional certification from the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters Inc. (NAPPS). The NAPPS process of certification involves educating oneself in business management, as well as developing a deeper understanding of the health and welfare of pets, in particular, cats and dogs.
"We are often the eyes and ears of our clients when they're away," explains Ms. Cree, "whether they're at work or on vacation. As pet sitters we do more than walk dogs and clean litter boxes. It's our responsibility to make sure the pets in our care do not exhibit any health problems and to alert owners when they do."
Launched in late 2006, Creeture Comforts now has a total of six pet sitters, including the owner, and dozens of clients in the Farmington Valley. The firm primarily provides in-home visits to care for dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and more.
"We have a number of regular clients who engage us to walk their dogs up to five days a week," according to Ms. Cree. "What's more, we have doggie playgroups and a small number of slots available for dogs to board in a cozy, home-like environment when they need more company than pet sitting provides. We also offer a pet taxi service for busy pet owners who need to get their pets to the vet or groomers."
