Simsbury Life Features Creeture Comforts
Four-legged friends need some comforts, too by Kelly Callaghan
Elayne Cree and Kyla Rypl of Creeture Comforts will pet sit and more.
Zeke, Ollie and Reggie were so excited when Noah came bounding through the gate that they met him and promptly began jumping all about and splashing in the kiddy pool. Their high jinks caught the attention of Bert and Ernie, who were in the house and were crying to come out and play. Sounds like a child's day care or summer camp, right? Wrong.
Ollie is a golden Labrador retriever, Zeke and Reggie are shelties, Noah is a Chesapeake Bay retriever, Bert is a yellow lab/hound mix and Ernie is a fox hound mix.
Creeture Comforts, located at 201 Great Pond Road at the Mew, offers doggie day camp for owners who want their four-legged pooches to enjoy socialization. They get to romp, play and fetch in Elayne Cree's one acre fenced in yard. Ms. Cree, who has operated a marketing business, Cree Communications, since 1991, has always had a love of dogs and wanted to create a business catering to dog and cats, too. [more]
Simsbury Pet Sitter Earns Professional Certification
SIMSBURY – Elayne Cree, owner of Creeture Comforts LLC, a pet sitting service, has earned professional certification from the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters Inc. (NAPPS). The NAPPS process of certification involves educating oneself in business management, as well as developing a deeper understanding of the health and welfare of pets, in particular, cats and dogs.
"We are often the eyes and ears of our clients when they're away," explains Ms. Cree, "whether they're at work or on vacation. As pet sitters we do more than walk dogs and clean litter boxes. It's our responsibility to make sure the pets in our care do not exhibit any health problems and to alert owners when they do."
Launched in late 2006, Creeture Comforts now has a total of six pet sitters, including the owner, and dozens of clients in the Farmington Valley. The firm primarily provides in-home visits to care for dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and more.
"We have a number of regular clients who engage us to walk their dogs up to five days a week," according to Ms. Cree. "What's more, we have doggie playgroups and a small number of slots available for dogs to board in a cozy, home-like environment when they need more company than pet sitting provides. We also offer a pet taxi service for busy pet owners who need to get their pets to the vet or groomers."
